Do i need a new battery for my cell phone?

A few weeks ago i got my phone wet and used the rice technique and it starting working again. Now a few weeks later my battery started acting haywire because now everytime try to charge it, it won't charge. I knew i probably would need a new one eventually. Should i wait a few see if it charges on its own or just get a new battery?
